Mardi Himal Basecamp Trek, Sited in Annapurna Region is a top trending trek of Nepal. It offers peaceful, unexplored, beautiful parts of the Annapurna region. This route provides gorgeous views of Annapurna, Machhapuchre, Dhaulagiri ranges, verdant jungle, glaring rivers, streams, wildlife, local villages, landscapes, Mardi Himal Base Camp, which is the main attraction of this trekking.

Mardi Himal Trek goes along twisted narrow path, green woods, streams, villages, climb up into rhododendron forest at the height around 3,300m (10826.77ft). Many lodges, restaurants, tea shops are available for travelers. Total package costs depend on tour, accommodation, and transportation.

The most favorable season is the autumn season in-between mid-September-October-November, that period the weather is clear, which provides the remarkable view of snow-capped mountains.

Mardi Himal Basecamp Trek Itinerary will be 7 to 8 days depending on the requirements. It begins in Kathmandu or Pokhara. If you start from Kathmandu, you take a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and drive to Kande and start the trekking vary day, but if you start from Pokhara, you move to Kande from your hotel in Pokhara, which is a 1-hour drive. The pass is quiet, relaxing, then goes steeper up to Australian Camp (2060m) and then slightly downhill to Pothana (1950m), climbing up to Deurali (2100m) Overnight. The following day, you head to Forest Camp carrying a packed lunch and walk through dense Rhododendron forest, making the surrounding colorful and reaching Forest Camp to stay the night there at Resthouse. In the morning, you walk from Forest Camp to Low Camp (2970m), which is 4 hours walk, and stay overnight at Low Camp, enjoying the view of Mt. Machapuchre (Fishtail)—the next day, hiking through the trees, Chhomrong Village, Ghandruk Village, reaching the High Camp (3550m) and rest there for the night. The following day, hike from High Camp to Mardi Base Camp (4500m) carrying packed lunch and enjoying a magnificent view of Mardi Himal, Mt. Annapurna, and return to the same place for a Night Stay. After having breakfast, you can head to Siding (1700m) and drive back to Pokhara (830m).

Almost all the Nepal’s Himalayan treks are teahouse treks so the teahouses are the common accommodation in many of the trekking routes providing just the basic requirements. The rooms in the teahouses are mostly on sharing basis. Mardi Himal Base Camp trail is not a very old route, the hotels and teahouses are comparatively less than other common routes like ABC and Poonhill. So, in some of the stations, you may have to share the rooms with 5 to 8 persons.

Food and Water

You will enjoy the delicious food along the trail of Mardi Himal base camp. While trekking on the Himalayas, you had better focus more on what your body requires rather than your favorites. The quality and quantity of food and water you consume during the trip determines the amount of stamina in your body which is essential for making your trek pleasing and purposeful.

  • Rucksack with waterproof cover (30-35 liters capacity): The one you need at first for keeping other essentials.
  • A pair of shoes: This trip is not much difficult one so, any outdoor shoes work for you. However, if you have the official hiking boots, it is great. Whichever you take ensure that is lighter.
  • Hiking pants: these pants contain the extra side pockets and they can also be folded into knee length shorts
  • Waterproof trousers or a pair of yoga pants: it makes you more comfortable for hike. Choose having double layers that helps you keep warm
  • Thermal shirts and trousers: They should be thick enough to maintain heat but make sure they should be flexible for proper movement.

  • Nepal Visa: Visa is essential for most foreigners to stay in Nepal. It can be acquired in Kathmandu or in advance at your nearest Nepali Embassy or consulate. Generally the visa fee is $40 for one month.
