It lies calmly within the Sagarmatha National Park in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal, internationally famed after the first historic ascent of Everest by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hilary in 1953.

Since then, many brave adventurers and celebrities have stepped on its landmark, such as Bear Grylls, Mandy Moore, Manisha Koirala, David Beckham, and many more.

We are also taking you on this same historic journey over 14 days that starts and ends in Kathmandu. You will take an immensely extraordinary flight to Lukla and then begin walking to cover the 130 km round-trip route to Everest.

The well-marked trail through the forest will take you to Namche Bazaar, where you will admire the commercial activity and also dine in the terrace of the world’s tallest luxurious hotel, Everest View.

Then, following the famous route of the Khumbu Valley, you will cross bridges, climb along the alpine meadows, and visit the typical Buddhist monasteries of Tengboche and Pangboche.

On the way to our Everest Base Camp trek, you will also experience the friendliness of the Sherpa people and live with them, sharing their Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditions.

The highlight of the Everest Base Camp trek 14-day journey is, of course, reaching the Everest Base Camp and etching the experience of standing before the infamous Khumbu Icefall in your memory.

Another remarkable attraction of our Everest Base Camp trek is to stand on the highest rocky platform of Kala Patthar at 5644 m to watch the shining icy flutes of the Taboche (6495 m), Ama Dablam (6812 m), Pumori (7161 m), Khumbutse (6639 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Baruntse (7162 m), Thamserku (6608 m), Lingtren (6749 m), Changtse (7543 m), Cholatse (6440 m), Nuptse (7861 m), Island (6165 m), Makalu (8485 m), Lobuche (6110 m) and many others.

The Everest Base Camp trek route will now circle you back to Lukla and then Kathmandu.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

01
Day 01

Arrival Kathmandu, 1350 m, Hotel

Today, you will arrive in the incredibly beautiful capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, to begin your Everest Base Camp trek. Our representative will meet you at TIA and take you to your hotel.

Enjoy your free time until all the trek participants have arrived. Then, you will meet our guide, who will share all the details about our Everest Base Camp trek itinerary.

You can then enjoy the evening air of Kathmandu, but we advise you to end it early, as we may have to begin the adventure around midnight.

Attention

Please understand that air traffic in TIA mostly heightens in spring and autumn. So the Lukla flights are often redirected from TIA to Ramechhap/Manthali Airport. As a result, we may need to undertake a late-night 4 to 5-hour drive around 1 or 2 AM to get to Ramechhap, for which we will offer our own vehicle.

Trip Information

Best Season

The excellent window for the Everest Base Camp trek is spring and autumn. Spring (March to May) offers very good trekking conditions with warmer weather and blooming rhododendrons, with the opportunity to meet the climbers from all around the world.

Autumn (September to November) gives you a more constant climate with clear skies and comfortable daytime temperatures, though nights can be quite cold. However, the terrain will be vibrant after the summer rains.

Winter (December to February) Everest Base Camp trek is more suitable for seasoned backpackers as it gets very cold and trails may be snowed over.

Summer (March to May) is the monsoon season with frequent rains often complicating the hiking trail and limiting the views.

Difficulty Grade of the Everest Base Camp Trek Itinerary

The Everest Base Camp trek 14 days adventure, is definitely not a casual walk, but you don’t have to be a super athlete either. It is rated as a category II moderate trekking journey mainly due to the high altitude and the length of the daily treks.

The hardest challenge will be overcoming the altitude exceeding over 4000 m and the daily walks lasting usually around 4 to 6 hours. However, you don’t have to worry as you will have all the support and an excellent organization from our team.

The route throughout is also well-constructed and maintained, and there will be places to stop and rest at every corner. Our Everest Base Camp trek itinerary has also adopted a very gradual speed and pace with perfectly placed rest days.

Who is the Everest Base Camp trek suitable for?

Anyone can take the challenge of the Everest Base Camp trek irrespective of age, experience, gender, or fitness. However, it is really very important for you to be in good health and not have any medical issues that can get worse in the high-altitude environment, such as those affecting your heart, lungs, or kidneys.

Additionally, the Everest Base Camp trek can also be changed based on your available time, preferences, and fitness. Thus, if you are a first timer in the high altitude trekking journeys, or you are seniors, teenagers, or children, if you have health and passion, then you can certainly take part in our Everest Base Camp trek.

Altitude Sickness and Management

Altitude sickness, which hikers often also know as Acute Mountain Sickness/AMS, is a real challenge of the Everest Base Camp trek. You will immediately ascend from 1350 m in Kathmandu to almost 3000 m in Lukla, ultimately ending at 5364 m of the Everest Base Camp.

Such altitude elevation will trigger the AMS in some individuals, with symptoms appearing in the form of dizziness, headaches, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.

That’s why we have included rest and acclimatization days in Namche and Dingboche, which are very important to get used to the high elevation.

Please follow your guide’s advice on what to do during these rest days. Drink a lot of water (around 4 liters a day between hikes) and eat garlic, ginger, lemon, and honey like the Sherpas do.

Listen to your body rhythm and inform the guide if you feel any discomfort. If he stops your climb, please respect his decision. You may also take Diamox from Kathmandu to help you adapt to the high Khumbu air, but don’t take it if you have kidney or other health issues since it is a diuretic medicine.

Training and Preparation

You need to be organized and have enough time to physically prepare for the Everest Base trek 14 days adventure. At least 3 to 6 months of physical training before the trek is essential.

It is because the more physically ready you are, the fewer challenges and suffering will be for you on the real journey. You should do a lot of stair climbing and weight training.

You should also run or jog on the beach, park, hill, or mountain. You can also climb any nearby small mountains, so you can be well prepared for the altitude and the journey itself.

This preparation will help you hike carrying the weight of the backpack and, to some extent, also fight the AMS.

Accommodation, Meals, Drinks, and Transport

We offer you a twin room at a three-star medium-range hotel for your two nights in Kathmandu. On the Everest Base Camp trek route, you will have cozy nights in the tea houses of the Khumbu Villages.

Up to Dingboche, you will have a personal bathroom, hot water, and WiFi (Paid). However, after Dingboche, the setting will be simpler with a shared bathroom inside or outside the tea house. On the trek also, you will also share your room with same-gender hikers.

As for meals, breakfast will be provided in Kathmandu, but lunch, dinner, and drinks will be on you. On the trek, three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be offered on site.

Your beverage costs are however, will not be part of our service. On your final day of the Everest Base Camp trek, we will treat you to a cultural farewell dinner in Kathmandu.

In terms of your traveling options, we will only use our own 4-wheel vehicle for your international and internal airport transfers, along with your Ramechhap transfer to and from Kathmandu. We will also arrange your internal Lukla flights on the trek.

Charging your Electric Device

All villages along the Everest Base Camp trek route now have an electricity supply thanks to the government supplying power and solar panel backup. You can therefore easily charge all your electric devices at the tea houses.

After Dingboche, you may not find electrical outlets in the rooms, and you may have to use the outlets in the reception or dining area. Remember, charging your device can be charged per device per hour (service not included).

Cellular Reception and Internet/WiFi

If you want a cheaper way to stay through mobile, then get a SIM Card of Ncell or Nepal Telecom. There are lots of shops in Kathmandu, Lukla, Phakding, and Namche where you can buy them.

You can also purchase an eSIM from these providers online and activate the service once you are in Kathmandu. The mobile network will be reliable up to Tengboche, and after that, it may vary. They also offer 4G connection for internet surfing through mobile data.

Regarding WiFi, it is available and charged per hour or via cards on the Everest Base Camp trek route. The available prepaid WiFi cards are from Everest Link or AirLink.

At Everest View Hotel and at some points in the Lukla to Namche route, you may even get free WiFi.

Travel Insurance

Please understand that international travel insurance is mandatory, and if you don’t purchase it, you will not be able to join our Everest Base Camp trek.

We suggest you don’t take travel insurance as an unnecessary extra cost. In fact, travel insurance will shield you from any financial risk that you may encounter during the high-altitude mountain adventure, like the Everest Base Camp trek 14 days trip.

For the Everest Base Camp trek, you will have to add some extra coverage on your insurance policy, such as:

  • Helicopter rescue up to the height of 5700 m
  • Injury, accident, and medical care
  • Mountain hiking activity with climbing
  • Added days during the trip
  • Loss, damage, or theft of your gear and belongings, trek or flight cancellation, or delays

Group or Private Everest Base Camp Trek

Prime Holidays offers you with the group joining or taking an individual private trip to the Everest Base Camp.

A private individual trip will be a customized personal experience where you will get a personal journey. You will have the liberty to set your own stops, walking hours, pace, and overnight stops.

Moreover, you can also make your own Everest Base Camp trek itinerary without having to depend on others. No strangers, just you, our guide, and your own schedule.

In a group joining, though, you will need to travel with strangers with less flexibility, an already outlined itinerary, and a schedule that also fits others’ preferences.

However, you will have a low cost and you will get to socialize more with the chances of meeting different people from different corners of the world. You can always select a group size you like to travel in.

If you like a balanced cost along with a personal touch, then our suggestion will be to form your own group with your friends or family members.

Trek Permits

Setting out on the Everest Base Camp trek means you will be exploring the beautiful Sagarmatha National Park and the Khumbu Valley area. Thus, to make this journey, you will need two important permits, which, with their related costs, are as follows:

Name of Permit Cost for Nepali per person in NPR Cost for SAARC per person in NPR Cost for Foreigners per person in NPR
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit 100 (Cost for Nepali per person) 1500 (Cost for SAARC per person) 3000 (Cost for Foreigners per person)
